Spoon River Middle School: 49

Agoraphobia is the fancy word
for what I feel.
An abnormal fear
of being in crowds,
the dictionary says.
But terror is another word,
a better one, really.
See, everyone knows
what terror means.
And this is what it means to me:
At school—every morning,
Every single morning—
the halls—the crowded halls—
are hives
aswarm with bees
that know no sweetness,
only
stings.
